Lawrence Hopkins
Manager of Student Support Services

Lawrence Hopkins is the Manager of Student Support Services at the Goodwill Excel Center. Lawrence is a native Washingtonian with over 30 years of experience serving District residents in the social services sectors. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of District of Columbia in Social Work. Lawrence came to GEC after 19 years as a Master Level Certified Addiction Counselor II. He was working as an addictions and substance abuse counselor at PIDARC Opiate Dependent Outpatient Treatment Center. As a lifelong District resident and from his experience as an addiction and substance abuse counselor, Lawrence saw the need for a strong adult education school.

At GEC, Lawrence supports students on their pathway to a high school diploma. He partners with GEC team members to support students facing critical barriers and identify barrier removal plans and individual support plans. He also facilitates small group sessions, mediations, and student support sessions. Additionally, Lawrence manages all student discipline with the School Director. Lawrence believes that proactive mediation founded in strong communication can build understanding before action. Lawrence joined GEC as a founding team member in 2016 and has helped build out the student support processes at the school.
