Student Board Member – 1776 Campus
Ms. Davonne Constantin is a proud Haitian who is born and raised in Washington, DC. She enrolled at GEC when GEC first opened in Fall 2016. She enrolled and then obtained employment at Starbucks and due to family emergencies, had to prioritize full-time work over school and left GEC. Davonne initially made the choice to leave high school in 9th grade due to challenges in school and not feeling respected as a person with her cultural identity by the school staff and teachers. Ms. Constantin is the mother to a 14-year-old daughter who has had her own challenges in school but is currently doing very well at her new school.
In August 2024, Davonne returned to GEC and re-enrolled with a focused energy on earning her high school diploma and to be a role model for her daughter. She made the decision to return to school and to take a break in employment while she has family support, to focus on her education and earning her diploma. Davonne is a natural leader and loved by all! She is a GEC Student Ambassador and is a fierce advocate for her peers. Davonne is a January 2026 graduate and will be starting at UDC in Fall 2026 as she begins her postsecondary education journey with the goal of obtaining her Associates Degree. She plans to continue her postsecondary education journey and earn her degree in Business and Management. She has a passion for the youth and wants to run non-profit organizations that support youth and young adults who have overcome challenges in their life and are looking for a second chance.
Davonne loves that GEC is family-oriented and that it truly feels like a family. She says GEC feels like a safe haven from so many students’ reality that they have to deal with at home. Davonne says GEC is home and she feels safe, valued, and appreciated. Davonne also serves as a Student Ambassador. She is excited about the opportunity to serve as a GEC Student Board Member.
