Arturo Martinez, School Compliance Manager

Arturo Martinez is GEC’s School Compliance Manager. He joined the GEC family in August of 2023. Mr. Martinez works closely with the Executive Director to ensure that school-based compliance requirements are met, such as record retention and maintenance, policy and procedure development, and special reports. He manages the GEC Emergency Excel Fund—a unique grant designed to assist students in removing barriers to ensure their academic success by staying in school. He also facilitates external compliance requirements mandated by PCSB and OSSE: mandatory testing, health and safety, special education, school improvement plans, and other annual submissions.

Prior to GEC, Mr. Martinez was the Principal of The Next Step PCS. For over 25 years he has worked with DC youth in different public charter schools, and has held many roles, such as Vice Principal, Academic Dean, Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessments, Special Education Coordinator, Department Chair, and Teacher.

Mr. Martinez has a master’s degree in executive leadership from Georgetown University, a master’s degree in Curriculum Design & Instruction from George Washington University, and a bachelor’s degree in History and Psychology from Macalester College.
