Catherine Meloy

Goodwill of Greater Washington & The Goodwill Excel Center

Catherine Meloy serves as President and CEO of Goodwill of Greater Washington and The Goodwill Excel Center Adult Charter High School. Prior to joining Goodwill in 2003, she built a successful career in broadcast radio management. Under her leadership, Goodwill has grown into a multifaceted social enterprise employing more than 1,300 associates and operating 25 retail stores, an eCommerce business, nine government janitorial and grounds maintenance contracts, and a sustainability and recycling center.

Committed to expanding Goodwill’s mission and impact, Catherine led the launch of The Goodwill Excel Center, the first adult charter high school in Washington, D.C., authorized to award high school diplomas to adult learners. The first campus opened in 2016, followed by a second location in 2022. A third campus in Prince George’s County, Maryland, is scheduled to open in 2027. As of July 2026, more than 900 students had graduated from The Goodwill Excel Center. Goodwill is also advancing innovative community development initiatives, including a first-of-its-kind affordable housing project in Arlington, Virginia. The facility will feature a state-of-the-art retail store and donation center opening in 2027, followed by 128 units of affordable family housing in 2028.

A respected leader in the Washington region, Catherine serves on the boards of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Center, where she serves as Board Chair. Catherine is also a former member of the Federal Reserve Board of Richmond, VA.

Catherine’s leadership and contributions have earned widespread recognition. Her honors include the “Leader of the Year” Award from the Greater Washington Board of Trade, designation as “Washingtonian of the Year” by Washingtonian magazine, induction into the American Marketing Association DC Hall of Fame, and recognition as a “Most Admired CEO” by SmartCEO magazine for her successful transformation of Goodwill of Greater Washington. Catherine was also selected as one of the “Most Powerful Women in Washington” by Washingtonian Magazine in both 2025 and 2026.
